Another busy week connecting, collaborating, and celebrating the businesses and people who make our community so vibrant!

 

We kicked things off Tuesday with our Creative Collab Focus Group/Roundtable, where members gathered to plan the details of The Pitch Clinic: A Creative Coaching Event designed to help local businesses sharpen their pitch and tell their story.

 

 

 

 

The day also gave us another opportunity to celebrate a new business in the community as we joined Quick Quack Car Wash on N. Sunrise for a Ribbon Cutting.

 

 

On Wednesday, our Women in Business group, led by Marcie Shelton of The Leader’s Partner, brought together more than 35 professionals for an afternoon of connection, conversation, and collaboration.

 

 

The following morning, members continued making connections at our Networking Breakfast at Randy Peters Event Center, creating another great opportunity to build relationships within the Chamber community.

This week also marked an exciting milestone for our Leadership Roseville Class of 2027, as we welcomed the incoming class to Sonoma County for their retreat.

The two-day experience was a wonderful opportunity to explore more about the history of Roseville, discuss the importance of the Leadership Roseville program, and begin thinking about how the class can come together around its service project.

A big thank you to Kate Rebello for leading discussions on CliftonStrengths for the incoming class, as well as Charlie Harrison for facilitating the retreat.

 

Placer County and Roseville are also getting some well-deserved national attention. Supervisor Bonnie Gore, in collaboration with county staff, recently authored an article in Industry Today highlighting efforts to build a more resilient regional supply chain and giving a shout-out to our  Chamber’s Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) efforts.

Site Selection magazine is also spotlighting Placer County and Roseville as two of California’s fast-growing communities, highlighting the continued momentum and opportunity in our region.

We love seeing Placer County and Roseville recognized on the national stage, and we’re proud to play a role in strengthening our business community and preparing our region for the future.

 

On the advocacy front, our Board Government Relations Chair and Director of Public Affairs, Chelsea Carbahal and Brooke Whiting, attended the CalChamber Policy and Workforce Summit in Walnut Creek on Thursday. The summit provided valuable guidance on grassroots campaigns, advocacy messaging, and how local business communities can utilize state and national resources through CalChamber and the U.S. Chamber to educate members about legislation that can impact their businesses and industries.

Chelsea also served as a panelist, sharing insights on navigating ballot measures and elections in California, building coalitions, and utilizing Political Action Committees to engage on issues and campaigns.

Friday brought a full room for our Joint Economic Development and Government Affairs Meeting with the Auburn, Lincoln, Loomis, and Rocklin Chambers.

Our Event Sponsor, Placer County Association of Realtors, shared updates on the current real estate market and trends, presented by President Taffy Maurer.

The meeting also featured our State of Economic Development panel, moderated by Eytan Wallace of KTXL FOX40 and featuring local economic development leaders Jonathan Wright with the City of Auburn, Daniella Stepek with the City of Lincoln, Melissa Anguiano with the City of Roseville, and Andrew Keys with the City of Rocklin. The panel provided updates on current growth projects, the impacts of successful projects, and what continues to make the Placer region a great place to live and work.

 

Finally, businesses should be aware of upcoming changes to California’s sales and use tax framework under SB 122. Effective January 1, 2027, the law will expand the framework to include electronically delivered and remotely accessed software, including most SaaS and cloud-based services. This will create new tax and compliance considerations for both businesses selling and purchasing digital products.

Businesses should begin preparing now by reviewing how software and bundled services are classified and invoiced, updating billing and tax systems, and understanding California’s sourcing rules.

The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration is continuing to work through implementation questions, including sourcing, multi-year contracts, and collection responsibilities.
