Certificate of Origin (CO)
A Certificate of Origin (CO) is a document required by foreign governments that validates the country of origin of where the product was manufactured. Virtually every country in the world considers the origin of imported goods when determining what duty will be assessed on the goods or, in some cases, whether the goods may be legally imported at all. This certificate authenticates these factors.
Origin does not refer to the country where the goods were shipped from, but to the country where they were made. In the event the products were manufactured in two or more countries, origin is obtained in the country where the last substantial economically justified work or process is carried out. An often-used practice is that if more than 50% of the cost of producing the goods originates from one country, the “national content” is more than 50%, then, that country is acceptable as the country of origin.
How do I obtain a Certificate of Origin (CO)?

The first step is to fill out an Indeminity Agreement form and a Certificate of Origin (CO) form (make sure the CO form is signed by the exporter, and, if applicable, notarized).
