Another busy week at the Roseville Area Chamber brought members together for opportunities to connect, learn, celebrate, and stay engaged with the issues shaping our business community.

The Membership Team kicked off the week with Tuesday’s Creative Collab Roundtable, a focus group designed specifically for members in the creative industries. The group provides a space for creative professionals to connect, collaborate, and share ideas with one another. On Wednesday, members gathered for the monthly Business Bootcamp, where Marcie Shelton of The Leader’s Partner led a conversation on leadership and leadership styles. The session offered attendees an opportunity to explore different approaches to leadership and gain insights they can put into practice within their businesses and teams.

 

 

Our Coffee Passport also received some extra attention this week when Good Day Sacramento stopped by MoJoe’s Cafe to spotlight the program! The segment showcased the fun of exploring local coffee shops, collecting stamps, and supporting the businesses that make our community so special. A portion of the proceeds from this year’s event will support the City of Roseville’s scholarship program through the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department, helping provide underserved community members with opportunities to participate in camps and programs. Thursday brought nearly 100 business professionals together for our monthly Breakfast at Randy Peters Event Center. It was another great morning of connection, conversation, and relationship-building with members from across our business community.

 

 

The Roseville Area Business Political Action Committee also had a busy week, hosting its August Fundraiser at the Garden Room @the Grounds. The event brought together business and community leaders for an evening of networking, advocacy, and conversation as we look ahead to the upcoming election season.

In advocacy updates, the Chamber continues to monitor legislation that could impact businesses across California.

SB 716 would increase penalties for certain health and safety violations involving large nonresidential properties of 20,000 square feet or more. Under the current version, county boards of supervisors could establish fines, penalties, and forfeitures for certain ordinance violations, with penalties ranging from $1,000 for a first violation to $5,000 for subsequent violations, and potentially reaching as much as $50,000 per violation during a state of emergency or federal disaster declaration. The bill also addresses responsibility for violations based on who controls the condition or activity in question.

As of August 26, SB 716 had been amended by the Assembly, read for a second time, and re-referred to the Assembly Committee on Local Government. The bill has not been signed into law and remains under consideration. Chamber members who own, lease, or operate larger commercial properties should be aware of the potential impact as we continue to monitor the bill.

 

The Chamber is also following SB 1069, which would establish a conditional approval process for certain aftermarket vehicle parts while the California Air Resources Board completes its review for an executive order. The measure is intended to streamline the approval process for manufacturers that have demonstrated compliance with California emissions requirements, allowing qualifying parts to be sold, advertised, or installed while final review is pending.

SB 1069 continues to move through the Legislature and has not been signed into law. We will continue monitoring its potential impact on manufacturers, automotive businesses, and consumers.
